Antico Borgo San Lorenzo, Poggibonsi

Situated in the heart of Chianti countryside, close to Colle Val d'Elsa and Poggibonsi, the four-star Antico Borgo San Lorenzo offers guests a quiet haven within easy reach of Siena, Florence, San Gimignano and all the major cultural centres of Tuscany. The ancient Etruscan city of Volterra is just a little distance away and this famous wine-growing countryside is abundant with vineyards and shady olive groves ... the views from here are breathtaking. Built in the early 13th century, the Borgo once served as a resting place for merchants and pilgrims on their way through Tuscany from the north of the country travelling towards Rome.

This little hotel is full of atmosphere and has just eight rooms, all with en-suite facilities, cable/satellite television, a separate seating area with a fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. Rooms are decorated traditionally with crisp white "pizzo" curtains (a type of lace similar to broderie anglaise), antique country-style furniture and cool terracotta floors. Self-catering accommodation is available and apartment kitchens are equipped with kitchen utensils, a dishwasher and a large dining table.

This Poggibonsi hotel has a wonderful swimming pool surrounded by a restful sun terrace furnished with tables, deck chairs and a shaded patio with a large barbecue and wooden picnic tables. Linen is available on request and guests are welcome to use the traditional wood-fired pizza oven. During the week dinner is offered at the Rose House or the nearby Enoteca, both of which offer a menu of typical Tuscan fare. A range of leisure activities on offer includes mountain biking (bikes available to hire from reception), horse riding, tennis and walking.
