Arbatasar Hotel, Arbatax
The Arbatasar Hotel, Arbatax sits on the eastern coast of the lovely Italian island of Sardinia. This is an 'island within an island' with the hotel sitting on a promontory jutting out into the Mediterranean (ferries from here run across to Genoa and Rome's Fiumicino airport on the mainland). The hotel name is derived from 'Arba at Ashar', the old name for Arbatax, meaning 'the 14th tower' - here stands the 14th of those towers which stood guard on the coast, ever vigilant for Saracen invasions.
This is an elegant, secluded hotel, more reminiscent of a large villa, and decorated in a soothing blend of warm, muted colours ... which invite you to relax after all that sea, sun and natural beauty. There's a swimming pool, great for exercise or simply to relax, and the hotel sits amongst old, gnarled trees, which themselves stand sentinel to the passage of the generations.
This is a quite lovely stretch of Sardinian coastline, and this Arbatax hotel is at the heart of it. From here you can stroll out, wander through the narrow streets, amidst the little shops and down to the harbour. This has a magic of its own, enfolded as it is within a cascade of red porphyry rocks which tumble down to the blue waters of the Mediterranean.
Rooms at this hotel in Arbatax are a choice of single use of double, double, twin, triples and suites. All have air conditioning, room safe, bathroom with shower and toilet, central heating, minibar, cable TV, direct-dial phone and hairdryer. An English breakfast is provided and your room has an alarm clock radio.
