Belvedere Di San Leonino, Castellina in Chianti

Loc.San Leonino Castellina In Chianti, Castellina In Chianti

The Hotel Belvedere Di San Leonino, Castellina in Chianti. Set in a gorgeous natural location in the heart of Chianti, this is the classic Tuscan setting. This is an historic country house, beautifully converted into hotel accommodation, and it's a working farm too. The estate has its own vineyard and produces its own wine. As well as all that, the hotel has a beautiful garden, lovely outdoor pool and superbly authentic atmosphere.

Rooms have terracotta floors, high oak-beamed ceilings, wrought iron beds and antique furnishings. But all have the modern comforts too - minibar, telephone, shower, toilet and TV. The hotel has WiFi internet access, and there are safe deposit facilities. There is an excellent bar (with the hotel's own wines of course) and the Il Cortile Restaurant offers the best of the superb cuisine of this region. Relax and enjoy a vista of vineyards, olive groves, the Val d'Elsa, Siena and San Gimignano.

Castellina in Chianti is a little town of 2800 people in Tuscany's Siena province, some 35km south of Florence and 15km north west of Siena. Lying in the Chianti hills, it is set between the Elsa, Pesa and Arbia rivers. A very ancient town, Etruscan in origin, it became fortified in the Middle Ages (Tuscany was a hotbed of internicine warfare). The major sights date from those times, including the massive Rocca (or castle) with its fourteenth century tower. The Rocca has a small Etruscan museum. See too the Palazzo Ugolini-Squarcialupi and the Palazzo Bianciardi, the Via delle Volte underground tunnel and the Poggino necropolis. And the Montecalvario Mound, outside the town, consists of four sixth century BC tombs.
