The Bertha International is a splendid five-star hotel in Italy. It's beautifully located in the spa resort of Montegrotto Terme, a charming little town in the Euganean Hills a few kilometres from the city of Padua. The countryside of northern Italy's Veneto region is peppered with ancient castles and hermitages. Travellers come, as they have done for millennia, to sample the naturally warm spa waters that spring from the ground here. The waters were originally discovered by the Romans, who bathed here to cure all manner of ills.

This luxurious Veneto hotel is set in its own luxuriant gardens and has 100 superior rooms, all with direct-dial telephone, colour satellite TV, personal safe, hairdryer and a generously stocked minibar. Each room has its own balcony together with a modern en-suite bathroom with both bath and shower. Guests can look forward to a sumptuous breakfast buffet of delicious breads, pastries, cereals and fresh fruit, served every morning between 7am and 10.30am. This Italian hotel has a family-friendly focus with a reduced rate for under-14s and no charge for children under the age of two. All rooms are accessible by lifts/elevators, which have Braille panels.

And as well as boasting two thermal swimming pools, the hotel spa offers a range of therapeutic and relaxing treatments, and has a spa pool and sunbed as well as a rejuvenating steam room. There is a fully equipped gymnasium for more active guests as well as an indoor games room, a tennis court and cycling facilities. Meeting facilities include a range of conference rooms equipped with the latest in audio-visual technology; there is also a currency exchange and a travel reservation service on the front desk, which operates 24 hours a day.
