A visit to Milazzo wouldn't be complete without an excursion to the Aeolian Islands. A popular attraction is to go for a mud bath in the warm clay on Vulcano Island and then wash it off in sea, with warm waters which feel like a Jacuzzi because of the bubbling hot sulphurous gas. The most picturesque island is Stromboli, where you can hike 850 metres up the active volcano. This is particularly popular for an evening's excursion, with beautiful sights of the minor eruptions in front of a sunset backdrop.
