Certosa di San Giacomo, Lauro
Set in an old monastery, this hotel in Campania provides an idyllic base for your holiday in Italy. Certosa di San Giacomo was built between 1197 and 1209 in Lauro, a little medieval town in Avellino province, just to the east of Naples. By 1620 the Certosa had become an abbey, and by the 1800s was a superb country house. Today, the monastery has been carefully transformed into a luxurious four-star hotel. The rooms, a mixture of doubles and triples, all have en suite bathrooms, telephone, minibar, television with Sky, air conditioning, safe, hairdryer and room service. A newspaper will be delivered to your door each morning. The 35 spacious rooms and ten suites all have soundproofing. All rooms are accessible by ground floor (US first floor) access.
This Campania hotel has retained the ancient wine press and the olive mill's old grindstone - this is a reflection of centuries of tradition, when the monks at Certosa would produce olive oil and fine wines such as Fiano and Aglianico. You can enjoy meals in the Cloister restaurant, and the complex has a fully equipped conference centre, for meetings of 10 to 1000 people. There is also a lounge bar and cafe. The 24-hour front desk, with a full range of concierge services, is on hand for anything you want or need. There are cots/cribs for the younger children, and guests of three years and under stay free of charge. A quite idyllic location for your stay in Campania ... whether for business, pleasure or a mixture of both.
