Colonna Hotel, Frascati

This lovely three-star hotel near Rome is situated in the charming wine-growing town of Frascati, which lies in the hills just outside Rome. The city centre is easily accessible from here (around half an hour to St Peter's Square) and Frascati is surrounded by pretty, scenic countryside and vine-clad hills. The hotel is on Piazza del Gesu, opposite a wonderful seventh-century church which is well worth a visit in its own right.

Frascati's Hotel Colonna is a family-run hotel and has just 20 guest rooms, all with en-suite bathrooms. All the rooms are furnished and decorated in elegant empire style and are fully air conditioned. Amenities include direct-dial telephone, satellite television (programmes in eight languages), VHS video recorder, internet modem jack and a fax machine. Bathrooms are fitted with hairdryers and fresh, fluffy towels, bathrobes and a complimentary set of mini toiletries is also provided. Breakfast is included in the room rate and this is served, continental buffet style, in a pleasant breakfast room.

There is a popular nine-hole golf course nearby, plus a horse-riding centre, and the hills around are criss-crossed with walking trails.
