The nearby Holy Shroud Chapel houses a piece of cloth which has been nicknamed the “most remarkable forgery in history”. Imprinted with the image of a man, it was claimed to be the shroud wrapped around Jesus' body after the crucifixion, until carbon testing 'proved' it to be a medieval fake. The actual shroud is only brought out on special occasions, but a photographic reproduction is on display at the chapel.
