Grand Hotel d'Aragona, near Bari

Via San Donato 5, Conversano

The ancient town of Conversano is the location for this four-star hotel. Situated just 30km (19 miles) south of Bari (Puglia's largest city), this historic town has a medieval Castle, a Romanesque cathedral and Baroque church of SS. Cosma e Damiano and Monastery of St. Benedict. Neighbouring places of interest include the castle of Marchione and the quite astonishing Castel de Monte - an 11th century fortress built by Frederick. Conversano is also well known for the breeding of Arab horses. These stocky and strong animals are used to cross breed the famous Lipizzaner horses.

The four-star Grand Hotel d'Aragona is set within a beautiful park, four miles from the coast, with easy access to all the other stunning cities and landmarks that litter this region of Italy. They offer a variety of accommodation, including single, double and triple rooms. All are air conditioned and come equipped with modern amenities, such as TV, shower room, telephone, mini bar and in-room safe. Regional and international cuisine can be enjoyed in the restaurant with an emphasis on fresh and locally sourced dishes, so expect a lot of fish and seafood and orecchiette pasta.

Children and business guests are both welcome here, with the provision of an outdoor play area for the former and Wi-Fi and meeting facilities for the latter. For everyone's enjoyment there is a fantastic outdoor swimming pool, almost essential in high summer when the heat in this part of Italy can be too intense even for the locals! With the added luxury of a sunbed, 24-hour concierge desk and the convenience of packed lunches on request, this hotel is tremendously welcoming.
