The Grand Hotel Et Des Palmes is truly one of Palermo's most impressive hotels, and here you can soak up the essence of Sicily's aristocratic past. Built in 1856 as a grand home for a noble family and following a stylish redesign by one of Italy's foremost turn-of-the-century architects in the early 1900s, the building has been transformed into one of Italy's finest hotels. The roll-call of famous and influential guests from the hotel's past includes philosophers, prime-ministers, writers and artists. It was here that the composer Richard Wagner and his wife Cosima were guests in 1881 while Wagner was working on the manuscript of his great opera Parsifal, and the armchair where he is said to have sat while composing is still here.

There are 177 elegantly appointed rooms and six suites. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom as well as direct-dial telephone, colour TV, mini-bar, radio and adjustable air-conditioning. The hotel has an excellent restaurant Ð La Palmetta - where the talented chef serves a wide range of local and international specialities as well as a mouthwatering selection of Mediterranean dishes. There is also a chic and well-stocked American Bar where guests can meet friends or business associates in a comfortable, stylish environment. The grand Hall of Mirrors can host large receptions or banquets for up to 300 guests.
