Acitrezza is also known as Cyclops Bay due to its place in Greek mythology because of the famous Faraglioni' cliffs. According to legend they were hurled by a giant Cyclops after an escaping Ulysses as he fled the Cyclops' lair. The village is also home to the ancient Norman castle of Acicastello, which can also be seen from the hotel's terrace.
Should you wish to take a daytrip then the city of Catania is only eight kilometres along the coast. The remains of two roman amphitheatres are still standing, with the larger one open to the public. Other attractions include the city's cathedral (duomo) and the Ursino castle, which is an old coastal fort converted into a museum.
