Grand Hotel Salerno, Salerno
The Grand Hotel in Salerno is built in a distinctive 'prow' shape. This four-star accommodation, a slick and attractive modern building, is just 400 metres from the railway station, and very close to the seafront. Nearby too is the historic centre (centro storico) of Salerno.
Salerno is, like all of the towns of the Amalfi Coast, suffused in history. A Roman town, subsequently invaded by the Normans, Anjou, Sicily and others. In the early Middle Ages, Salerno was considered the centre of medical science and learning in western Europe. Sights in the town include the Cathedral, and a number of important medieval churches, including St Benedict, the Church of the Annunziata, St Gregory and St George - the finest Baroque church in the city. Other sights include the Diocesan Museum, the Castello di Arechi and the Palazzo D'Avossa.
The town is also extremely pretty, with the Tyrrhenian Sea glittering azure at its foot, and the snow-capped mountains in the distance. Facilities at this Salerno hotel include the largest conference centre in the town (nine meeting rooms with state of the art facilities, hosting up to 1000 people). Bedrooms have air conditioning, bathroom with bath and shower, minibar, safe, satellite TV, work desk, phone and hairdryer. The hotel has WiFi access, a good restaurant, and facilities for guests with disabilities. A superb Amalfi Coast hotel, offering the best in modern convenience and comfort - and unrivalled access to all that makes this part of Italy so special.
