With a history of habitation stretching back to the Bronze Age and a sometimes bewildering story of invasion and re-invasion, it's well worth checking out the Museo Eoliano (museum) in the Lipari town for the full story. This is a beautiful island, with buses running out from the main town. check out the fishing village of Canneto and the beach at Porticello. And climb to Quattrocchi, with its superb views over to Vulcano. See too the hamlet of Pianoconte and the Roman thermal baths at San Calogero.
