Hotel Alfonso A Mare, Praiano
Overlooking the very pretty beach at La Praia, the Hotel Alfonso A Mare is one of the nicest hotels in Praiano, the last remaining fishing village on the Amalfi Coast. The Costeria Amalfitana is renowned as the most beautiful stretch of coastline in Europe, with clifftop roads and pretty little towns tumbling down to the sea, it has been a favourite with visitors for a couple of centuries - Praiano though remains relatively untouched. It sits midway between Amalfi and Positano, around 7km from each.
This is a perfect way to enjoy this beautiful stretch of Tyrrhenian Sea too. While you are here you can use the hotel's pedal boats and wooden rowing boats to explore around the coastline. You'll find hidden beaches, unexpected caves and grottoes - this southern side of the Sorrento Peninsula is quite lovely. There is also a scuba diving centre, and daily departures by boat trip to Positano, Amalfi, Capri and other superb destinations on and around the Amalfi Coast.
There are just 16 rooms at this Praiano hotel, all of them sunny and spacious. All are fitted with colourful Majolica floors and finished with expert attention to the last detail. All rooms have a balcony overlooking the ocean, and have a phone, bathroom, TV and work desk. Doubles and triples, they are available bed and breakfast or half board. The hotel has a restaurant, a bar and there are non smoking rooms. The beach, of course, is right out front.
