Hotel Alla Fava, Venice
Campo de la Fava, 5525 Castello, VeniceVenice's Hotel Alla Fava is a two-star establishment hidden away in the Piazza Campo della Fava, very close to the Piazza San Marco. A very nice contrast here, being close to the centre of things though comfortably secluded from the noise and bustle of the Venice downtown area.
Built in the 16th century, the building was once known as the Gussoni Palace, which abuts the San Zulian Canal. According to city tradition, the grand Venetian building faces the home of Casanova, the building given to him as a young man after he saved the life of a Venetian dignitary. Nowadays the palace is a 15-room hotel - an affordable berth in the centre of town.
Apart from regular rooms, the hotel also offers a five-person apartment for those visiting the city as a group or with the family. This is a three-minute walk from Alla Fava, so is similarly close to all the major sights. Both locations are just a short walk from the breathtaking Basilica and Square (piazza) of San Marco, Napoleon called it 'Europe's drawing room' and to this day it is the prime place in the city to sit and watch the world go by. Grab a coffee or a glass of prosecco and drink in the beauty and energy of this quite unique town. Other nearby must-sees include the Rialto Bridge (Ponte Rialto), a marvellous vantage point from which to watch the canal traffic pass by. Also ensure you see the Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale) the old seat of power in the city.
