The town got its name from 'Casa Deo', or 'house of God', referring to its status as a crucial stopping point on the ancient Via Emilia (the main road still bisecting Emilia Romagna region). The Emilian Way was one of the many links in the pilgrim's way leading from Canterbury to 'Caput Mundi', the 'capital of the world', or Rome in other words. Today, it makes a lovely way to base yourself in the countryside of Emilia Romagna, which has some beautiful scenery, some fine cities within striking distance (as well as nearby Piacenza, you can visit Milan, Brescia or Bologna from here).
