Hotel Argentario, Ravenna
The perfect base for exploring the historic heart of Ravenna, the Hotel Argentario is on Via di Roma, in the heart of this ancient city. You are near the pedestrian area and the shops here, and the railway station is just a few hundred metres away.
This Ravenna accommodation offers three-star comfort, with single, double and triple rooms. Facilities include bathroom with bath, shower and toilet, minibar, cable TV, direct-dial phone, desk and lamp, air conditioning and central heating. The hotel has a lounge and bar, and the front desk is open around the clock to help with any questions, with maps or for ideas on what to do in the area. There's plenty! The Adriatic Coast has retreated a few miles since this was a Roman port, but the sandy beaches lies within very easy reach (this stretch between Ravenna and Rimini is very popular as a summer holiday destination for Italian families).
Ravenna was once the capital of the Roman Empire - around 400AD Emperor Honorius got decidedly nervous as the Goths and Vandals approached his capital of Milan, and relocated to this town on Italy's Adriatic Coast. History is everywhere in Ravenna, with a collection of important early Christian churches (eight of them on the World Heritage List). There are museums and palaces, and the superb mosaics for which Ravenna is famous - many of the finest examples are in the Basilica of San Vitale in the town.
