From here, it's just a short distance to the Laguna dello Stagnone, a protected area of coast which is extremely popular for water sports. At the centre of the lagoon is the island of Mothia, protected by UNESCO, and with a major archeological site. Nearby too are Segesta, San Vito lo Capo, Erice, the nature reserve at Zingaro, Selinunte and the beautiful Egadi islands of Favignana, Marettimo and Levanzo. This coastline is dotted with windmills, lining the salt flats of the lagoon.
