Hotel Belvedere, San Remo
The Hotel Belvedere San Remo (Sanremo) is in a central position in this Ligurian seaside town - 200 metres from the beach and 800 metres from the railway station. Note that this central position means the hotel doesn't have its own private parking, though there are free parking spaces and two pay garages nearby.
Rooms at this 3-star San Remo hotel are a mix of singles, doubles, triples and quadruples. Each has a direct-dial phone, shower and toilet. An English breakfast comes as part of the package. The front desk is open around the clock, and there is a restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine daily, with fish a speciality of course.
San Remo has long been a popular holiday destination. With the Mediterranean Sea on one side and the Maritime Alps rising steeply behind the town, this narrow coastal strip of Liguria (the Italian Riviera) enjoys a particular micro-climate, with reliably warm summers and mild winters. Known as 'la citta dei fiori' (the town of flowers), San Remo is a centre of production for blooms (hence the coast here being dubbed the 'Riviera dei Fiori'). The town has two main tourist harbours in the Porto Vecchio (old harbour) and the newer Porto Sole (harbour of the sun). You'll find plenty of shops and restaurants, a bustling market twice a week and - once you get out of town - there is delightful countryside to explore. There is golf and horse riding nearby.
The A10 motorway runs behind the town, along the coast, allowing you to swiftly be in Genoa, or across the French border to the Cote D'Azur. Both have international airports.
