Hotel Bigallo, Florence

This pleasant three-star hotel in downtown Florence (Firenze) boasts an excellent location in the very centre of the city. Its setting is a wonderful Renaissance palace on the ancient Loggia del Bigallo, which overlooks the Piazza del Duomo and the Baptistry. Despite its central location, this is a surprisingly quiet and cosy hotel with lovely atmospheric rooms including a clutch of generously proportioned suites. All the rooms at Florence's Hotel Bigallo are smartly furnished, with elegant pieces of furniture and tasteful fabrics and many of the rooms enjoy superlative views of Florence's emblematic cathedral (or Duomo), or Giotto's wonderful Bell Tower. Right in the 'centro storico' (historic heart) of town, this hotel is wonderfully convenient for restaurants and sightseeing as the whole of the city is practically on your doorstep.

There are just 20 en-suite guest rooms here, all with individually controlled air conditioning, direct-dial telephone, colour television, radio/alarm clock, minibar and safe, and the hotel has a small lift/elevator from which the rooms are accessible. A tasty continental-style breakfast is included in the room rate.

There is friendly, helpful 24-hour service on the reception desk and nothing is too much trouble for staff, who will be happy to advise about current exhibitions and museum tickets or recommend restaurants and make reservations on your behalf. A selection of beauty treatments is available here and guests will find a useful internet point and safety deposit facilities in the reception area. The hotel has a lovely bar with a relaxed, informal atmosphere and a wide range of drinks and snacks on offer. Pay parking can be found near to the hotel, although we'd warn that this area of Florence is not particularly easy to navigate for drivers unfamiliar with the city.
