Back in town, the highpoint of the many fine historic sights is the World Heritage Site of eight early Christian monuments - legacy of the Western Roman Empire relocating its capital here from Milan in the fifth century. Lying north west of the town centre, they are clustered around the Basilica of San Vitale, and include the National Museum and the Galla Placida mausoleum. All are close by this Ravenna hotel. The town also has the tomb of the great poet Dante, and the Museo Dantesco, dedicated to his memory and works.
