Hotel Bramante, Todi
Via Orvietana 48, TodiHotel Bramante, Todi - four-star comfort set deep in the green heart of Umbria, and on the slopes of Todi, this hotel provides the finest in modern comfort in a delightful sylvan setting. From here you are within easy striking distance of Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Spoleto, and lovely Todi itself.
Legend would have it that Todi was founded by Hercules in 1330BC, but even without colourful myth, this Umbrian town has history aplenty. The ancient Umbrii tribe settled here in the eighth century BC, and the town was conquered by the Romans in 217BC. Supposedly, all-conquering Hannibal was halted here after his victory at Trasimeno. Like so many central Italian cities, it was a much bigger deal in the Middle Ages than today. In the 13th century, Todi had 40,000 inhabitants, today there are fewer than half that number. The legacy though is a charming and relaxed place - it combines its status as a thriving agricultural and market town with being a trendy retreat for Romans and for foreign expats. Sitting dizzyingly high above the valley, the location and architecture make this a very special place.
Rooms at this Todi hotel are doubles, some with views of the valley. All have minibar, telephone, air conditioning, bathroom with shower and a television. The facilities are terrific, with WiFi internet access, barbecue, horse riding, Turkish bath, tennis court, massage, children's playground, spa and wellness centre, sauna and outdoor swimming pool.
