This beautifully green region of Sardinia (in medieval times it was one of the four 'giudicati' that ruled Sardinia) has the lovely Costa Smeralda coastline and a confusion of little islands offshore, collectively making up the Parco Nazionale dell'Archipelago di La Maddalena. As well as the ferries that run from Palau out to Genoa, there are boat trips around the numerous islands and islets, many of them uninhabited. The coast itself has lovely secluded bays and beaches, and dramatically rocky outcrops.

This Gallura hotel has its own little harbour, from which there are daily excursions out to La Maddalena archipelago and to the Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast).
