Hotel Casabianca, Asciano, Siena

The four-star Hotel Casabianca is set within an old farm in Chianti. Located high on the ridge dividing the Val di Chiana (celebrated by Dante) and the Crete Senesi (painted by Lorenzetti) this is an area rich in the artistic and cultural history of Tuscany.

The rooms have magnicent views onto the hills of Monte Cetona and Montalcino, and towards the Crete Senese and thence Monte Amiata and the ancient city of Siena. This is an ancient site. In olden times there was a large community here, with a chapel, shops and a school: the location is mentioned by Repetti in his early nineteenth century dictionary and is by Pieri in his 'Toponomastica' of Southern Tuscany.

Now the house has been remodelled into a comfortable country hotel. With comfortable and well-equipped rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, hydromassage tub, a restaurant serving local and Italian dishes, and a relaxing bar, the emphasis is on service, quality and comfort. There are meeting and conference rooms and, outside the hotel, the surrounding woods are perfect for trekking and horse riding.

An easy drive takes you to Asciano and its monuments and buildings; Rapolano with its travertine quarries; Castelmuzio and the Romanesque church of Santo Stefano; the monastery at San Anna in Camprena; the abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore and much more.

Casabianca has been lovingly returned to its old splendour, with rustic buildings, the elegant main house, and its lovely gardens and olive groves (which produce extra virgin olive oil).
