Hotel Casci, Florence
Via Cavour, 13, FlorenceThis hotel in Florence is a friendly family-run business. It was once a medieval palace owned by the Medici family, as were most of the buildings in Via Cavour at the time. In 1851 the palazzo was home to the famous composer Gioacchino Rossini. It was then bought for use as a hotel in 1926, causing quite a stir at the time. This was because the Hotel Casci was the first Florence hotel to have hot and cold running water in all of its rooms. It is now owned by another family and has undergone renovations to give it a contemporary Tuscan style.
This two-star Florence hotel is only 150 metres from the Cathedral or Duomo. The Galleria dell'Accademia, home to Michelangelo's famous David, is also just a short distance away. Take a short walk from the hotel and you'll find the Basilica of San Lorenzo, which holds the Laurentian Library and Medici Tombs, plus a selection of works of Michelangelo, and the San Marco Museum which houses Beato Angelico's Annunciation.
There are 24 rooms in the hotel, including singles, doubles, triples and rooms for four. All come with a private en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, TV, and telephone. The rooms also come with a fridge and a safety deposit box. There is free internet access from computers located in the lobby. Each room is spacious and airy, with high ceilings. All come with a lovely view looking out onto the internal courtyard, the narrow side streets or the hotel garden. There are two rooms in this Florence hotel which look out over Via Cavour, and these are totally sound-proofed.
