Sorrento itself has been a magnet for travellers for decades, and much of this is down to its beautiful location by the sea. It's a relaxing place to be - here you can cool off in the gardens of the Villa Comunale or visit the orange and lemon groves at I Giardini di Cataldo, where you can sample delicious limoncello liqueur - the perfect gift for friends and family back home.

Sorrento is also well placed for discovering the rest of the Campania region. The ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum are close by and provide an illuminating insight into how people lived in AD79. Naples is also easy to get to - visit the Galleria di Capodimonte for fine art, the archaeological museum for the finest mosaics and paintings from Pompeii, and eat pizza - the Neapolitan version of this classic is supposed to be the best in Italy.
