Hotel Cetarium, near Trapani
The Hotel Cetarium is in the lovely Sicilian port of Castellamare del Golfo. The comfortable four-star hotel is close to the Arab-Norman castle from which the town takes its name, and is ideally situated for the numerous historic sights on this stretch of northern Sicilian coastline.
Nearby places to visit include the marvellous and very ancient hilltop town of Erice, which has spectacular views out over the Mediterranean - on a clear day you can even see Tunisia on the north African coast. This western tip of Sicily narrows considerably, so you are also close to the southern coast of the island. A trip of 30km or so across the island to see the Greek ruins at Selinunte is a must. There is the archeological dig at Segesta, well within reach on a day trip. Here you can see the Greek theatre and the Temple. Other nearby sights include the ancient town of Scopello.
And there is so much right here. This elegantly realised modern hotel gazes over the harbour, and the rooms are comfortably equipped, with radio and TV, telephone, minibar, air conditioning and private en suite bathroom. This Castellamare del Golfo hotel has two restaurants, one inside one out. You can enjoy the best in Sicilian cuisine while enjoying superb views of the harbour and marina. And Castellamare del Golfo has a charming old town, its little streets clustered around the 17th century Spanish castle, with some terrific bars and restaurants.
