This recently refurbished Florence hotel is in a late-nineteenth century palazzo (palace), which stands near to the San Marco monastery and museum. Within easy reach of the town's bustling core, the hotel is in a quieter corner of Florence's historic central zone. The Hotel Cimabue neighbours an impressive thirteenth century building, formerly the hospital Bonifazio Lupi and Renaissance Palazzo Pandolfini. The main historic sites near to the hotel include the Palazzo Vecchio, located in the Piazza della Signoria.

This many-turreted palace, designed by Arnolfo di Cambio and completed in 1340 is the original seat of the Florentine government. The piazza has a turbulent political history as it was where the Dominican monk Savonarola was burned at the stake in 1498. Also designed by Arnolfo di Cambio, and easily reached from the hotel, is the Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral. It is the fourth-largest cathedral in the world, and its famous dome, designed by Brunelleschi, is the most distinctive element of the Florence skyline.
