Hotel Clelia, Deiva Marina
Corso Italia 23, Deiva MarinaThe Hotel Clelia, Deiva Marina is just 100 metres from the beach, with the Golfo del Tigullio to the east and the Cinque Terre to the west. The main attraction of the Gulf is Portofino, a picturesque fishing village, which has been colonised by film stars and millionaires since the Fifties. Its harbour is now filled with exclusive yachts, not fishing boats, and the waterfront is lined with expensive boutiques and chic bars.
Take the footpath from the port up to the pretty church of San Giorgio, which is rumoured to hold the remains of St George, or further up the hill visit the Castello Brown with its terrace overlooking the town. To the east of Deiva Marina and Hotel Clelia are the Cinque Terre, five coastal villages nestled into the cliffside and beautiful surrounding countryside. There are plenty of boats shuttling along this section of coastline, so you can easily view these settlements from the sea, but with so many fantastic hiking trails connecting them, you may be brave enough to attempt the 11km trek from Riomaggiore to Monterosso.
This 3-star family-run Deiva Marina accommodation has a fine restaurant serving traditional Ligurian cuisine characterised by fresh seafood, mushrooms and salads. The hydromassage swimming pool is situated in a lush Mediterranean garden, where you can also enjoy a refreshing aperitivo or light snack from the informal Pull Deck restaurant. The comfortable rooms are all ensuite, air conditioned and equipped with satellite TV, telephone, minibar, safe and wireless internet connection.
