Hotel Colomba, Florence
This charming hotel in Florence is in the historic heart of the Italian city, situated on Via Cavour just a short walk from the Duomo (cathedral).
The Hotel Colomba is a friendly, family-run establishment within a delightful eighteenth century palazzo. The building has a rich and varied history. During the mid-1800s it housed the Caffe Michelangelo, where young artists such as Silvestro Lega, Telemaco Singorini and Giovanni Fattori (who together were to found the Macchiaioli movement) would meet. A plaque on the facade of the building marks this footnote in art history.
Today, at street level, the hotel has an exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci's ingenious works of engineering. Moving into the common areas of the hotel and the artistic motif is continued, with original prints and paintings decorating the walls of the breakfast room, lobby and hallways, as well as in the hotel bedrooms themselves.
The staff at the Hotel Colomba are cheerful and friendly, and endeavour to make your vacation in Florence truly special. There are extra-large 'quad' rooms available with three beds, perfect for family groups. Your deal includes a generous buffet breakfast and satellite TV with CNN and BBC World, so you can keep up with international news. Rooms have minibars, safes, air conditioning and free internet points. Children under four stay free, and pets are welcome. An ever-changing buffet menu and a selection of teas and coffees are available to help you unwind and enjoy your stay in Florence.
