Hotel Conca D'Oro, Positano
The Hotel Conca D'Ora, Positano is a beautiful, Byzantine building with huge terraces and unrivalled views over the Amalfi coast. This Positano hotel has 40 well-proportioned rooms, each boasting a breathtaking coastal view, in addition to direct-line telephone, TV and hairdryer. In some of the rooms, satellite TV and air-conditioning require a small additional fee. The ancient villa is surrounded by richly scented orange and lemon groves, and its appreciable distance from the road allows for peaceful strolls beneath these shady trees. Other hotel facilities include a Jacuzzi, sun terrace, and spa and beauty treatments. Meals taken on the restaurant's magnificent veranda might begin with fresh mussels or calamari, and end with almond cake and limoncello cream, made from the famous lemony aperitif local to this area.
Positano is an attractive town clinging precipitously to the cliffs along the Amalfi Coast, and a scene much featured on postcards. It is a very glamorous destination, and a huge hit with author John Steinbeck when he visited it in 1953. The town centre has a good number of boutiques and stalls, which specialise in local linen and cotton goods. There is also a plentiful selection of cafes and bars dotted around near this hotel in Positano, but visitors should not expect to dine particularly cheaply in this town. Boats can be taken from Positano to Naples, Sorrento, Ischia and Capri, making it ideal for guests who want to avoid being stuck behind the wheel during their vacation.
