This hotel close to the historic town of Assisi, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of the importance of its historical and religious sights and buildings. Assisi was originally settled by the Umbrians, and then by the invading Romans. They built the city walls, which are still visible, as are the amphitheatre and theatre. Since these times, it has become famous as the birthplace of Saint Francis, and is home to the Basilica di San Francesco, the medieval monastery and church which pulls millions of pilgrims and other sightseers to this Umbrian hill town every year.
