Hotel Da Angelo, Assisi
Via San Potente 6, AssisiA charming family-run hotel in Assisi, positioned in the Umbrian countryside, a short distance from the historic city of itself. The Hotel Da Angelo is an oasis of peace and quiet. Aimed at small groups and pilgrims, this Assisi hotel was built in 1955 and has been run by the Tardioli family ever since.
The rooms are simply and beautifully decorated in what's known as the 'Arte Povera' style or 'Poor Art'; these are named from the Italian artistic movement which made use of mediums the artists could get for free or very cheaply. All rooms come with telephone, shower, toilet, TV and a stunning view. Two of the rooms are designed for disabled guests. The restaurant, which has panoramic views of the lush surrounding countryside and overlooks the Assisi Valley, seats up to 250 guests and serves a broad range of Italian cuisine, from typical Umbrian dishes to grilled meat, game and fish. A la carte and a cheaper fixed menu are both available.
As well as ample free parking and a large outdoor swimming pool this Assisi hotel has its own mini museum of antiques including period motorbikes and carriages. The one-star hotel is in walking distance of the city of Assisi with its many churches and attractions. The Basilica of St Francis of Assisi is home to many beautiful frescos and there are many ancient Roman ruins to explore, such as the city walls, amphitheatre, forum and Temple of Minerva. The nearest airports are in Rome and Florence.
