Hotel Del Golfo, Lerici
Gerini 37, La SpeziaHotel Del Golfo is in the centre of Lerici, an attractive coastal town 11 kilometres from La Spezia on Liguria's Italian Riviera. The town is well known for its imposing castle on a cliff top that once guarded the entrance to the Gulf of La Spezia. Today the castle is an interesting museum and reached within 10 minutes by foot from the centre of the town. Lerici is a pretty old fishing village with a port and beaches, and looks out to the peninsula of Portovenere, which then leads round to the rugged coastal Five Villages (Cinque Terre), famous for their spectacular scenic walks. These can all be reached easily by ferry from Lerici - there is a stop 200 metres from the Hotel Del Golfo. The area has acquired the name Gulf of Poets' and there is no doubting its popularity with such 19th-century visitors as Byron and Shelley, who lived close to Lerici; restaurant names in the lively port area now bear witness to this fact.
Lerici's family-run Hotel Del Golfo is well established and friendly, in a central but quiet and leafy location. The 20 pleasant rooms have direct-dial phones, TVs and private shower rooms. Some have decent-sized, sunny balconies. Lerici's small but beautiful beach is just 150 metres from this two-star hotel. A sports club with a golf course, tennis courts and swimming pools can be found 500 metres from the hotel, facing the beach.
Delicious, locally caught fish can be sampled in the Del Golfo's restaurant, while breakfast can be enjoyed in the sunshine on the terrace. Car parking spaces are available, as is a 24-hour front desk, internet access and relaxing lounge and bar.
