Hotel Desiree is a quiet, well-priced, family-run hotel in the centre of Florence (Firenze) close to the mainline railway station and Piazza Santa Maria Novella. It's also very handy for the Fortezza da Basso exhibition centre as well as the Congress Palace, making it an ideal spot either for business or leisure. This hotel in Florence has been personally decorated by the owners with pretty furniture and tasteful decorations.

Each of the 18 rooms has its own private shower facilities as well as built-in hairdryer, a direct-dial telephone, satellite television, a personal safe and air conditioning. A few of the rooms have delightful stained-glass windows with shutters opening on to wonderful views of the Duomo and the dome of San Lorenzo church together with pretty rooftop vistas of this lovely city.

All the sights of this fascinating Italian city are close at hand. There is the Accademia art gallery (home to Michelangelo's David); the Ponte Vecchio, a delightful jumble of shops spanning the River Arno; there is the Palazzo Vecchio; and the Renaissance majesty of Brunelleschi's dome crowning the Duomo (cathedral) of Santa Maria del Fiore.

There is no bar or restaurant at this Florence hotel, but friendly, helpful staff will be only too happy to point you in the direction of some excellent restaurants and lively trattorias in the neighbourhood.
