Hotel Eden, Sirmione
Close to Sirmione's beautiful 13th-century castle, the Hotel Eden has been playing host to tourists for decades. It was here that poet Ezra Pound, friend of James Joyce, stayed in May 1920 - Pound was so impressed that he wrote to Joyce telling him to visit.
Stylishly decorated, the hotel's bedrooms have all you need for a relaxing stay, including air-conditioning, bathroom facilities, minibar, a phone and television. There is also a fully manned front desk with staff available to see to your needs around the clock, and parking. Enjoy a relaxing drink in the bar after a hectic day seeing the sights - and there is plenty to see. Sirmione is on the southern shore of Lake Garda; it has the lake's only natural spring and the historic centre is traffic-free so it's easy to walk around. From here you can take a ferry to some of the lake's other resorts, including Gardone Riviera.
You can also windsurf or water-ski - Lake Garda is renowned for the quality of its water sports. Sirmione is also very convenient for the motorway/highway, making trips to Verona, Mantua (Mantova) or even Milan well within reach. Alternatively you can simply relax on a beach on the lake and gaze at the scenery that has inspired hundreds of writers, poets and composers including the likes of Verdi and Rossini.
