Hotel Garibaldi, near Messina
This hotel is in a prime location on the seafront of Milazzo, close to Messina on Sicily, with its own private beach and picturesque views across the port. You can spend days basking in the Sicilian sun, or explore Milazzo's popular attractions. Sites include the Arab-Norman castle, which can be seen from the hotel, and the sanctuary of St Anthony, which is still a place of pilgrimage today.
Milazzo is the main port for catching ferries to the renowned volcanic Aeolian Islands. On Vulcano Island you can go for a dip in one of the hollows next to the beach for the perfect holiday picture opportunity of a mud clay bath! Afterwards enjoy the Jacuzzi warm waters of the sea, heated by the sulphurous fumes from the seabed.
Stromboli Island is home to the Aeolian Isles' active volcano, which you can climb 850 metres to its summit. The best time to do this is at dusk so you can enjoy a beautiful sunset backdrop to pictures of the volcano's minor eruptions. Just make sure you're wearing proper footwear, and watch out for hot rocks and steam.
Milazzo's Hotel Garibaldi is housed in an old villa in this historic town, once a famous fishing port. The hotel retains architectural reminders of its noble past, combined with modern comforts. The rooms are all elegantly decorated in keeping with the tradition of the hotel, whilst also providing modern facilities such as private bathrooms. In the evening you can enjoy a relaxing drink and enjoy the hotel's unobstructed views across Milazzo's bay.
