The recently constructed Hotel Garni Orchidea sits some two kilometres from the centre of Malcesine, in the idyllic setting of the western bank of Lake Garda. This is a delightfully peaceful area and guests have use of the swimming pool at the Hotel Astoria, 900 metres away. Rooms here are doubles and triples, all with radio, bathroom, air conditioning, telephone and television. The hotel has elevator/lift to all floors, a bar, free parking, rooms and facilities for guests with disabilities. There is a pleasant garden in which to relax, and the hotel offers bicycle rental - a great way to see the lovely countryside around here.

Lake Garda is a delight, the largest lake in Italy and with some lovely towns around its banks, including Torri di Benaco, the wine town of Bardolino, Lazise, Castelnuovo del Garda, Peschiera del Garda and Malcesine itself. A tourist destination for centuries, and long a part of the Grand Tour, Malcesine captured the imagination of many artists, with Gustav Klimt painting 'Malcesine' in 1913.

And Malcesine has a terrific setting, with Lake Garda to the front and the peak of Monte Baldo rising swiftly behind the town. There is a funicular cableway rising up from the town to the summit of the mountain. In winter, Monte Baldo is a centre for skiing; in summer, there is good walking, hiking and mountain biking. On the waters of the lake, meanwhile, you can enjoy sailing, kayaking, wind and kite surfing and many other watersports. More leisurely pursuits include boat trips around Garda.
