Hotel Gattapone, Gubbio
This hotel in Gubbio is in the downtown area of this historic Umbrian town. Gubbio is steeped in history: an ancient settlement that was of great importance to the Umbri tribe that first settled it, and then the Roman empire after them. Gubbio has the second largest surviving Roman theatre in the world, built from local limestone in the 1st century BC. The town centre is constructed from medieval dark grey stone, and its narrow streets with Gothic architecture evoke a strong sense of history as you walk through them. There is plenty to see and do here, and guests will be particularly interested in the Eugubine tables - bronze tablets which constitute the oldest surviving texts of the ancient Umbrian language.
The three-star Hotel Gattapone, Gubbio is a recently renovated medieval palazzo right in the heart of the town, and close to all of the main sights of interest. There are fantastic views across Gubbio, and there are also wonderfully peaceful panoramas of the small internal garden within the hotel itself. Guests can walk in the gardens as their children play in the play area, or eat local cuisine in the restaurant before a relaxing drink in the lounge or bar. The hotel's front desk is manned around the clock to deal with any requests you might have, and parking is provided for every guest.
Each of the 18 rooms has views of either the town or the gardens, and the hotel has access to the street at two different levels for your convenience. To give you peace of mind, the owners have provided security chains for all doors and a safe for your room, where you can keep valuables while you are away. All rooms are air conditioned with en-suite bathroom facilities that include a shower, toilet and hairdryer, and there is a minibar where you can get a cold drink after a long day in the town. To make sure you can keep in touch if you want to, there is a desk with a private telephone line and Sky/cable television as well. This Gubbio hotel is a great choice right at the heart of this historic Umbrian city.
