This Ischia hotel is set over two buildings. The main hotel is Il Giardino delle Ninfe, with La Fenice lying on the hillside above. This upper section is reached by an internal staircase and an external walkway. Il Giardino (the garden) is appropriately set amid parkland and English gardens, with sunbeds and a private path wending its way down to the beach on Cartaromana Bay. This coastline is famed for its natural thermal springs, rich in iron and sulphur. Ischia has of course been a popular thermal resort for millennia - the Romans came here to take the volcanic muds and waters that bubbled up through the rocks here. The central mountain on Ischia, Monte Epomeo, is in fact a dormant volcano.
