Hotel Gli Dei, Pozzuoli
This three-storey hotel, opened in 2004, features striking contemporary architecture and is located in Pozzuoli on the Phlegrean peninsula, in Italy's Campania region. Though now technically dormant, the Solfatara volcano, 600 metres from the hotel, still spews out jets of acrid sulphur, boiling mud and hot sand, making for a spectacular backdrop. Pozzuoli also features the remains of the Roman Amphitheatre of Flavius, the third largest in Italy and thought to have been built by the same men that raised the Colosseum in Rome. The city of Naples, with its splendid Baroque and Renaissance architecture (and much more) is 14 kilometres away. The remains of ancient Pompeii are a 49 kilometre drive from here.
The four-star Hotel Gli Dei, a smoking-free establishment, has an outdoor swimming pool with a sun terrace furnished with loungers and parasols; the pool terrace enjoys exceptional sea views. Multilingual staff at the 24-hour front desk can offer express check-out, currency exchange, and the use of safe deposit facilities. They are also happy to provide advice and information about touring and sightseeing in Pozzuoli and the surrounding area. Restaurant Atena serves local specialities and Italian dishes in a contemporary setting and al fresco dining is available on the terrace. Business services at the hotel include meeting facilities and internet access. The 36 rooms have pastel decor, co-ordinated furnishings and modern Italian furnishings. All are equipped with satellite television, climate control and minibars; some have Jacuzzi tubs. Complimentary internet access is available on request.
