Hotel I Ciciu, Dronero near Cuneo
The Hotel I Ciciu sits just outside the little Piemonte town of Dronero, just north-west of Cuneo in this beautiful part of north-western Italy. Piemonte (or Piedmont) literally means 'at the foot of the mountains', and from here the Alps soar up to meet the borders with France and Switzerland. To the south lie the Italian and French Rivieras.
The full name of the Albergo Ristorante I Ciciu is typically Piemontese: this is as much a restaurant as a hotel, and Piedmont region is quite obsessive about its food and its wine. Some of the finest reds in Italy come from around here - famous names including Barolo, Barbera, Barbaresco and Nebbiolo. And Piemonte is one of the 'foodie' centres of Italy - with the Mediterranean cuisine of the south giving way to a far more French taste for butter, cream and that ingredient for which Piemonte is famous - the white truffle.
This Dronero hotel only opened in September 2007. Its comfortable double and twin rooms have bathroom with shower, phone and television. After a long day exploring this beautiful region, you can return to the finest of Piemontese cuisine, served in a restaurant with panoramic views. Specialities include anchovies in salsa verde, gnocchi with Toma d'Elva, and Bonet. Services at the hotel include internet access, a children's playground, meeting facilities, free parking, rooms and facilities for disabled guests, and a bar.
