And it's certainly one of Tuscany's prettiest towns, with Renaissance palazzi at every turn, some superb churches including the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and important civic buildings including the Fortezza, the Palazzo Cantucci and the Museo Civico. The defensive walls are broken by a number of gates, including the Porta di Grassi and the Porta al Prato, and at the northern reach of the town you have the town gardens, the Giardino di Poggiofanti.
