This modern three-star hotel is just seven minutes' drive from the Fontanarossa airport at Catania, and also offers excellent transport links via the main Catania-Palermo motorway, so it's excellent for business travellers and others needing to get around fast. Catania itself, overlooking the Ionian sea, is well worth a visit. One of the most colourful places in all Sicily, its centre was destroyed by a vast earthquake at the end of the 17th century and completely rebuilt. As a result, it is remarkably homogeneous in style and few modern buildings have been allowed to encroach on its baroque beauty. The Duomo (cathedral) is a must and make sure to visit the Via Crociferi, which is lined with baroque palaces, churches and convents. Mount Etna is a brooding presence in the distance, capped with snow even in summer and often billowing smoke, a reminder of its volcanic activity.
