Hotel Il Principe, Milazzo

Via Lungomare Garibaldi 118, Milazzo

Hotel Il Principe, Milazzo. Overlooking the sea and out to the Aeolian Islands, this Milazzo hotel has been created within a fine historic building in the centre of the town. This is the Vaccarella district of Milazzo, the old fishing port of the town.

A town on Sicily's north coast, Milazzo is 50km from the city of Messina, just north of the road to Palermo, and sits on the Capo di Milazzo Peninsula. Very ancient, the town has traces of neolithic settlement and, like so much of Sicily, it had to endure successive waves of invasion - though to the modern visitor this is all part of the incredible richness and diversity of modern Sicilian culture. All left their mark - Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Normans, the Spanish, Byzantium and more. Mythology even has it that Milazzo is where Odysseus (Ulysses) was shipwrecked and met the Cyclops. Today, as for millennia, Milazzo is a gateway to the lovely Aeolian Islands offshore. Two local sights within easy reach of this Milazzo hotel are the Castle and the sanctuary of St Anthony of Padua, a little church built in a cave where the saint took refuge after his shipwreck.

Today, Milazzo is a popular tourist destination, connecting to the Aeolians via high speed ferry. With its craft shops, and lovely restaurants and bars, the town is a delight. This Milazzo hotel has rooms and suites, all air conditioned, with minibar, trouser press, bathroom, telephone and TV. The hotel has no restaurant, but there are some great places to eat very nearby.
