Hotel Il Viandante, San Teodoro
Via Cala D'Ambra N° 8, San TeodoroHotel Il Viandante is in the centre of San Teodoro, a lovely little town on Sardinia's equally lovely north-east coastline. You are perfectly placed here for trips into the historic town of Olbia, just a few kilometres north along the coast.
This is a quite stunning stretch of seaboard, lying south of the famed Costa Smeralda. You can take long walks on sandy beaches that are often surprisingly empty, or take a trip to Mount Nieddu. Enjoy boat rides out to the Isola Tavolara, La Maddalena archipelago or the submarine rocks at Bue Marino. It's a gloriously craggy and winding line of coast, with countless little islands just off shore.
Olbia meanwhile dates from Roman times (if not earlier) and has for millennia been the economic heart of this part of the island. There are Greek, Phoenician and Carthaginian remains here, and in the Middle Ages it became capital of Gallura (one of the independent states that made up Sardinia). Sights here include the Romanesque Basilica of San Simplicio, which dates from the eleventh century. There are ferries from here to Civitavecchia (Rome's ferry terminal).
Rooms here are single, double, twin or triple, with authentic Sardinian furnishings, ironwork, textiles and ceramics, all crafted by Sardinian artisans. The hotel has non-smoking accommodation, a bar, garden, rooms for guests with limited mobility, newspapers and safe deposit facilities. There is free parking and shuttle service to the airport. Nearby activities include horse riding, biking, diving, snorkelling and golf.
