The rather marvellously named Hotel Kaos sits next to the sea beneath the Sicilian town of Agrigento. Next to the house of Luigi Pirandello (perhaps Italy's greatest writer), and close to the Valley of the Temples, this is a terrific location. And it's a lovely hotel too, created within a painstakingly restored old villa - once home to nobility, now a comfortable base for your Sicilian vacation.

The 111 rooms of the hotel are laid out over three floors. Each is air conditioned, with minibar, phone, bathroom, TV and hairdryer. There is a choice of single, double or triple rooms. The hotel has WiFi internet access, 24-hour front desk, valet parking, luggage storage, restaurant, terrace and free parking. Pets are allowed and there is safe storage available for your valuables. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, solarium and massage facilities. You'll find excellent walking in the quite beautiful countryside on this southern Sicilian coast.

The Valle dei Templi (Valley of the Temples) is the most extraordinary example of ancient Greek remains outside Greece itself, and is the reason most people come to Agrigento (apart from the beach, sunshine and terrific food of course). This very ancient town was a capital of Magna Grecia (Greater Greece) and the extraordinary spread of temples, now a UNESCO world heritage site, could occupy several days of exploration. All is complemented by the excellent Museo Nazionale Archeologico, which amply tells the story of this keystone of the ancient world.
