Hotel Kroma, Ragusa

This Sicily hotel is located in the heart of Ragusa, the bustling and likeable provincial capital of a Sicilian region famous for its Baroque splendour. Masterpieces of the Baroque style are to be found in Ragusa Ibla, the lower town, rebuilt from scratch after the devastating 1693 earthquake. But the area, sunnier and more open than the volcanic Etna region to the north, can also boast fascinating places such as Siracusa, where the whole ruined Ancient Greek city of Neapolis is laid out in an archaeological park overlooking the sea. Here both classical and modern drama productions are staged in the wonderful Greek theatre every summer. Siracusa is also home to a magnificent cathedral, and at Agrigento on the south coast the Greek temples are spectacular when lit at night. Noto is perhaps the prettiest of the Baroque towns.

The three star Hotel Kroma offers comfortable elegance at the heart of fascinating Ragusa and is only a short walk from the town's atmospheric core. Its rooms, single, double and triple, are equipped with satellite TV, a minibar, an in-room safe, air conditioning and direct-dial phone. The hotel also has a restaurant/pizzeria and a lounge/bar, as well as its own parking. The front desk is manned 24 hours a day and there is an express check out, as well as safety deposit boxes and photocopying facilities. For those wishing to enjoy the unique charm of this sunny and uncrowded south-eastern region, the elegant comfort of this hotel in Sicily would offer an ideal base.
