It is situated near to the Basilica di San Lorenzo, less than ten minutes walk from the train station and within easy reach of all the famous museums and galleries. The most obvious place to begin your tour of Florence is the Basilica itself, as it is so close to the hotel. There has been a church on the site since the fourth century, although the existing building was built in the 1420s. The austere facade may not look promising, but step inside and Brunelleschi's early-Renaissance interior is infinitely more beautiful.

The city's largest market, the Mercato Centrale, is also in the vicinity of the hotel, and its covered food hall is a great place to buy local delicacies. The surrounding street market sells leather bags and shoes as well as replica football shirts if you are looking for affordable presents to bring home. Other attractions not to be missed include the majestic Duomo, also designed by Brunelleschi; the Medici Chapel, home to some of Michelangelo's finest works; and the Uffizi Gallery, where you can see Botticelli's Birth of Venus.
