Hotel La Reunion, Ravenna
Via Corrado Ricci, 29, RavennaHotel La Reunion, Ravenna - set on Via Corrado Ricci, right in the heart of the city, and facing the Tomb of Dante Alighieri ... this Ravenna hotel is beautifully located.
Ravenna is a great way to combine a heady slug of Italian culture with some seaside fun. This Emilia Romagna town was the capital of the Roman Empire from the fifth century AD, a handy place to hide out on the Adriatic Coast from the marauding Goths who sacked Milan and swept south to burn Rome. It had long been the main Adriatic port for the Roman navy, and now acquired some very important early Christian buildings, which survive to this day - the eight structures, central among them the Basilica di San Vitale, are now protected as a World Heritage Site. Get a good guide book and head out from your Ravenna hotel to soak up centuries of history.
Ravenna also has a fine early Medieval cathedral, the tomb of Dante and some lovely palazzi and gardens. There are museums and galleries and the defensive Rocca Brancaleone, a castle built in the fifteenth century by the Venetians, to defend the town. The seas have receded over the last 1500 years, and Ravenna now connects to the Adriatic via the city canal. But it's a short hop to the beach from your Ravenna hotel, and this is a big holiday region for Italians - check out the buzzing seaside towns of Punta Marina, Porto Corsini, Casalborsetti and Marina Romea too.
This Ravenna hotel has double, triple and quadruple rooms, all have WiFi internet, air conditioning, bathroom and TV. This beautifully renovated building has a peaceful city centre setting.
